With the help of Windows Movie Maker I have made a small movie documenting the creating of my mixed media painting "Destiny of the blue-eyed". I created the background using a wide spatula spreading out white and silver acrylic paint. I chose this particular combination because the "sparkle" of the silver paint reflects the light differently than the white - bringing life and interest to the background. While the paint was still drying, I covered the canvas with pages from a Spanish newspaper brought home to me for creative use by a kind colleague from a holiday in Mallorca :-). I pressed the newspaper pages into wet paint, and rubbed on the surface. This proces will make the ink from the newspaper transfer onto the acrylics. The piece is left to dry for a couple of hours. After that the paper is sprayed with water, and the fibres of the paper can be rubbed off the canvas - leaving the ink transferred to the paint in spots, and leaving a "grunged" background texture.
I then created the portrait of a girl with too big too blue eyes using charcoal, acrylic paints, acrylic markers and alcohol markers. I scraped texture in her hair using a scraping tool and filled her hair with the words "Sometimes a girl with too big too blue eyes will see too much for her heart to bear".
I cut out two images of woodpeckers from an old book, and transferred the images to the canvas using an acrylic transfer technique with Golden Matte Medium. I often incorporate birds in my paintings. To me they symbolize freedom, intuitive wisdom and a deep connection with the forces of nature.
Let me know if you like the movie - if you have any questions, just ask.
Happy painting:-)
